There lived a moneylender in a town. He had seven boys and one girl. When the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha came in the month of Kartik, the women of the moneylender’s family also kept Karva Chauth fast. When the moneylender’s sons sat down to take food during the night, they asked the moneylender’s daughter (his sister) also to have food together. On being asked by the brothers to have food, their sister replied that today is my fast. When the moon comes out, I will take food only after completing the rituals of worship. The withered face of the sister was not seen by the brothers due to hunger. He tried to feed his sister. They went outside the house and lit a fire.
Showing the light of that fire to his sister, he said, ‘Look sister the moon has come out. You take food by offering prayers to the moon and doing your worship. Hearing about the moon coming out of her brothers, the sister went to her sisters-in-law and said. Sister-in-law the moon has come out, let’s worship. But her sister-in-law knew the trick made by her husbands. He also told his Nand about this and said that you too should not believe his words. But the sister did not pay attention to the words of the sisters-in-law and finished the worship and took food. Thus his fast was broken and Ganesh ji got angry with him.
Soon after this her husband became ill and all the money and money of the house was spent on his illness. Now when the moneylender’s daughter came to know about the wrong fast done by her, she felt very sad. He repented of his mistake. Now he again worshiped the fast with full rituals and worshiped Ganesha .
