Marion Barber, former Cowboys running back, dies at age 38; NFL world mourns loss

Former Cowboys running back Marion Barber has died.

Barber, a fourth-round pick of the Cowboys in 2005, was found dead in his apartment in Frisco, Texas, per Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Barber's cause of death is not currently known. He was 38, nine days shy of his 39th birthday.

The running back played six seasons with Dallas between 2005 and 2010 and earned a reputation for being a hard-nosed, tough-to-tackle back.

While never hitting the 1,000-yard mark with the Cowboys, Barber set a high-water mark of 975 yards rushing with Dallas in 2007 and was a big part of Dallas' 13-3 NFC East champion season.

After his release in 2010, he was signed by the Bears in 2011. He played 11 games and announced his retirement from the NFL in 2012.
